Grants of up to $5,000 available for the ParticipACTION Community Challenge 2023

We’re leveling the playing field by empowering individuals and strengthening communities through the power of sport and physical activity.

We encourage community organizations to apply for grants of up to $5,000 from Dec. 14 to Feb. 1 for the ParticipACTION Community Challenge 2023, which will take place throughout June. These grants are designed to increase sport and physical activity participation, with an emphasis on equity-deserving groups, and can be used for staffing, training, promotion, equipment or venue rentals.

Everyone should enjoy the mental and physical benefits of getting active, including the essential feeling of inclusion and belonging in a community – however you define it. Stay tuned for the challenge grant launch in mid-December!

On October 18, WHO published the Global status report on physical activity 2022, which measures the extent to which governments are implementing recommendations to increase physical activity across all ages and abilities. Data from 194 countries show that overall progress is slow, and countries must develop and implement policies faster to increase physical activity levels and therefore prevent disease and reduce the burden on health-care systems.

Levelling the Playing Fields: A study on optimizing city streets near schools for play

To prioritize children’s movement and play needs, the Levellingthe Playing Fields project has implemented and tested street rebalancing interventions that change the immediate conditions around children’s homes and schools.
